SlamBoree 1990
NWA/WCW SlamBoree PPV was a smash hit receiving a "A" rating by wrestling, sports writers around the industry. The show also posted the highest buy rate of the other two PPVs Sunday held by the AWA and AJPW. Over 32,000 fans witnessed the show live in the Astrodome in Texas. The only thing that was any type of negative for booker Greg Moe, was the fact that both Terry Gordy and Arn Anderson decided to work the AJPW PPV instead of attending SlamBoree. Below is the complete show with match results.
1. Terry Funk defeated Lex Luger to retain the WCW World Heavyweight Title
The match was won when Dory Funk Jr threw salt in Luger's eyes and Terry Funk caught Luger in a quick roll-up.
2. Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) defeated Rick Steiner & Junkyard Dog and the Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes & Jimmy Garvin for the WCW World Tag Team Titles
3. Cactus Jack & Bam Bam Bigelow defeated "Hotstuff" Eddie Gilbert & Mark Callous in a Table Match
4. Jerry Lawler defeated Kevin Sullivan to retain the WCW Television Title
Lawler & Sullivan put on a brilliant match causing the fans to really pop.
5. Fatu, Samu & Don Muraco defeated The Great Muta, Mike Shaw & Scott Hall for the NWA World Six Man Tag Team Titles
6. Tully Blanchard defeated Sting and Greg Moe to retain the NWA United States Title
Blanchard got the pin on Sting after Greg Moe was eliminated and when Ric Flair caught Sting from behind with a chair as Ole Anderson distracted the referee.
7. Doom (Ron Simmons & Butch Reed) and Dan Spivey defeated Paul Orndorff, Ole Anderson and Dick Slater
8. Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) defeated Jim Neidhart and Steve Williams to retain the NWA Tag Team Titles
This match was simply fantastic as Neidhart and Williams make for a great team and the Road Warriors looked like the extreme, powerhouse tag team as always.
9. Sid Vicious defeated "Cowboy" Bob Orton for the WCW United States Title
Sid Vicious and Bob Orton work so well together that the fans were so heated over Sid's performance as the ultimate heel that they threw water bottles, paper and paper cups full of sodas. Sid was lucky to even make it back down the aisle on the way to the locker room.
10. Bret Hart defeated Ric Flair in a Cage Classic match for the NWA World Heavyweight Title
Bret Hart slapped the "Sharpshooter" on Ric Flair causing Flair to tap right in the middle of the caged ring as Horsemen Ole Anderson and Tully Blanchard desperately tried climbing the cage walls to reach Flair to make a save. Bret Hart win his first NWA World Heavyweight Championship.
